How to properly take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) (adapted from COVID Conscious San Antonio Zine)
RATs are notorious for false negatives especially for pre- or asymptomatic people. It is recommended to take 3 tests, each 36-48hrs apart for most accurate results.
Do not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke, vape for at least 30 min before collecting the sample
Blow your nose and wash your hands before collecting the sample
Unless indicated, it is recommended to swab both inner cheeks and lower gums, then swab your tongue as far back as is comfortable, then swab each nostril
Wait the recommended time for the test result (depends on brand, 10min-35min) and snap a picture immediately no need to bring your actual test card in person.
Additionally, please stay home if you feel sick, suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19 within the past 10 days, are recovering from COVID-19 and/or live/share indoor space with someone who currently has COVID-19 in order to minimize spread. If you are taking public transportation or carpooling with someone outside of your household, please wear a well fitting respirator (KN95 or better). If you do not have access to a KN95 mask check out a local mask bloc or library for free masks and tests (see map here)
